About Us

Welcome to Dalai Lama Foundation, Nandurbar

Empowering marginalized communities in Maharashtra through education, healthcare, sanitation, and environmental stewardship since 2013.

Who Are We

Founded on 26th September 2013 by seven dedicated changemakers, the Dalai Lama Foundation, Nandurbar works to uplift tribal, rural, and underserved communities. Guided by the principle “Il Bhavatu Sabba Mangalam” – May all beings be happy, we strive to create a just and inclusive society through compassion, service, and empowerment.

Our Mission

Empower vulnerable communities through education, health, and livelihood programs. Promote equity, environmental sustainability, and social justice. Partner with government bodies, civil society, and institutions for systemic impact and long-term transformation. Foster dignity, self-reliance, and inclusive development at the grassroots level.

Compassion

We believe in serving communities with deep empathy, kindness, and understanding—putting people at the heart of everything we do.

02.

Our work is guided by honesty, transparency, and strong ethical standards to build trust and accountability in all our actions.

03.

Empowerment

We focus on enabling individuals and communities to take charge of their own growth and development through education and opportunities.

04.

Inclusivity

We are committed to reaching the most marginalized and underserved, ensuring no one is left behind regardless of caste, gender, or background.

05.

Sustainability

Our initiatives are designed to create lasting change by involving local communities and promoting environmentally sound practices.

06.

Collaboration

We believe in the power of partnerships—working hand-in-hand with governments, institutions, and other changemakers to maximize our impact.

What We Do

We provide services and run programs across a broad spectrum of needs, including:

We support rural and tribal students, especially girls, by facilitating access to quality education through government partnerships like Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

We operate a community kitchen that provides nutritious meals to over 200 people every day, ensuring that hunger doesn’t become a barrier to dignity or productivity.

From remote tribal villages to rural hamlets, we spread crucial health and hygiene awareness and support public health efforts to reduce disease and improve well-being.

We run focused campaigns and workshops promoting women’s rights, menstrual hygiene, nutrition, and child protection, including strong advocacy against child marriage.

Our work with scheduled castes and tribes includes literacy drives, livelihood skill training, and awareness programs to uplift these historically disadvantaged communities.

Through plantation drives, waste management projects, and forest conservation efforts, we educate and engage communities to protect and preserve the environment.

We provide hands-on skill training programs for unemployed youth and women, equipping them with practical tools for self-sufficiency and financial independence.

We deploy trained staff and resources to understaffed government schools, improving educational outcomes and ensuring every child receives the support they need.

In partnership with Zilla Parishad Nandurbar, we conduct sanitation surveys, prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), and promote behavior change for a cleaner, healthier rural Maharashtra.

Our Approach

At the Dalai Lama Foundation, we believe that sustainable change begins from within the community. Our approach is rooted in empathy, inclusivity, and collaboration. Every initiative we undertake is designed to empower, not impose — to build lasting solutions through cooperation and local ownership.

Community-Led Change

We involve local residents in every step of the process—from identifying needs to designing and executing solutions. This ensures that our programs are culturally relevant, truly needed, and more sustainable in the long run.

Strong Partnerships

We collaborate with government bodies, local schools, health departments, and other NGOs to amplify impact. By aligning our efforts with public systems and experienced organizations, we scale our reach and effectiveness.

Integrated Development

We recognize that social issues are deeply interconnected. That’s why we adopt a holistic model—simultaneously addressing education, health, gender equity, environmental conservation, and livelihoods—to create well-rounded, meaningful change.

Grassroots Engagement

We are committed to reaching the unreached. Our work is focused particularly in remote tribal zones of Nandurbar, where access to basic services is limited. By staying deeply connected with the grassroots, we ensure that our solutions are inclusive and responsive to local realities.
